Langworthy and Tenney Just Sold Out Western New York

Statement from Western New York Area Labor Federation, AFL-CIO President Peter De Jesús Jr. on the Passage of Trump’s “Big Beautiful Bill:" Langworthy and Tenney Just Sold Out Western New York
Donald Trump’s “Big Beautiful Bill” has passed, and Representatives Nick Langworthy and Claudia Tenney helped ram it through. Let’s be clear: This bill is not just harmful, it is devastating.
It’s a full-blown attack on the working people of Western New York, and Langworthy and Tenney are directly responsible for the damage that’s about to hit our communities.
This bill guts Medicaid, threatens Social Security protections, strips funding from public schools, and cuts federal support for infrastructure and community services, all to finance massive tax breaks for billionaires and multinational corporations. These aren’t abstract policy decisions. These are choices that will close hospitals in rural towns and urban neighborhoods alike, forcing families to drive hours for basic care, if they can afford it at all. Seniors in nursing homes will be left with fewer staff and less support. Parents will watch as their kids’ schools lay off teachers, eliminate programs, and stretch already-thin resources to the breaking point.
Families already struggling with the rising cost of living will be pushed even closer to the edge as support for food assistance, child care, and housing is slashed. Communities that have waited years for long-overdue investments in roads, bridges, and water systems will be told there’s no money, not because it doesn’t exist, but because Langworthy and Tenney handed it over to Trump’s donor class.
They didn’t vote for their constituents, they voted for Trump, for the wealthy, and for a political agenda that treats working people as expendable. In siding with this bill, Langworthy and Tenney made a deliberate choice to abandon the needs of Buffalo, Rochester, Jamestown, Lockport, and every small town and union family in between. They chose to protect profits over people, corporate power over community, and political loyalty over moral responsibility.
This is more than a policy failure. It’s a moral one. And we will not forget it.
We will not let them hide behind talking points or patriotic slogans. There is nothing “beautiful” about a bill that robs people of healthcare, education, food, housing, and dignity. The people of Western New York deserve better than this betrayal. We deserve leaders who fight for us, not politicians who sell us out when it matters most.
We will fight back. We will organize, mobilize, and hold Langworthy and Tenney accountable, in the streets, in our communities, and at the ballot box.
